Apple Inc recently disclosed that the Apple App Store has now reached 25 billion app downloads, which is an indication that iOS smartphone and gadget holders are still keen for strapping native apps.
The company has placed the new milestone on its website with a full-size banner that says: “A billion thanks. 25 times over.” Apple had been encouraging for big prize since February 13 and revealed that the champ of the 25th billion app download milestone would be recorded online in about 10 days after the end of the countdown phase and he/she would be awarded with $10,000 iTunes gift card.

According to the App Store countdown report by Apple, iTunes Store’s countdown meter on February 18 had traced around 24,338,612,000 downloads, which represents that it had received more than 660 million downloads from people in just around 14 days.
Apple released its SDK for third-party developers to develop apps for iOS platform on March 6, 2008 and the iOS SDK was downloaded above one million times in just first four days and at that time there were only 800 apps existing when the company started its iTunes Store in July 2008. Today, there are around 578,716 apps available in App Store for all iOS devices.
The Cupertino-based tech giant unveiled in July 2011 that its App Store acquired more than 15 billion downloads milestone. On the other hand, its main competitor Google also revealed last year that its Android Market had gained 10 billion downloads milestone.
